Togetherness Vigil

2020

Sitting together for meals is a ritual predicated on the setting of a table. This dinner table installation is laden with objects that impact the collective physical, mental, and relational health of the Reed family living in the home. Green and pink motifs run through the array of items, a list that includes porcelain pears, hand sanitizer, plants, nuts, musical instruments, zucchini, canned chiles, mushrooms, alcohol, vitamins, low carb sweeteners, salt, and candles, all set atop a non-slip rug pad.

Many of the objects have contextual or symbolic significance, such as the shape of the tambourine, the photograph and alcohol pairings at each seat, and the candles’ associations with religion and vigils for the dead.
